Metal Matinee: Illfame + Izah + Reason To Kill

Illfame werd opgericht in 2002. Joris van Iersel (Drums) stond aan de wieg en is een drummer die het vak afgekeken heeft van grootheden als Dave Lombardo (Slayer) en Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel). Invloeden van deze bands waren dan ook hoorbaar aanwezig gedurende de eerste jaren na de oprichting. Erik Wadners (gitaar) brengt een voorkeur voor de bekende Gothenburg Sound (Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Arch Enemy) met zich mee en de huidige stijl van Illfame begint zich dan al langzaam af te tekenen. Wanneer Albert de Bruijn (gitaar) tot de band toetreedt, worden ook elementen uit de Heavy, Speed en Thrash Metal toegevoegd (Exodus, Testament, Megadeth). Samen met Jeroen van Broekhoven (zang, basgitaar) werd er in 2005 de debuut E.P. ‘Illfame‘ in eigen beheer uitgebracht. Krachtige riffs, donkere klanken, zware vocalen en het typische Old School Death Metal geluid was het resultaat en heeft Illfame de nodige optredens opgeleverd. Na een periode van rust heeft Jeroen besloten Illfame te verlaten en er werd gezocht naar vervanging voor basgitaar en zang. Na een gedegen zoektocht zijn Frans Terhorst (basgitaar) en Bas de Esch (zang) de gelederen komen versterken die elk hun eigen kwaliteiten laten gelden binnen de band. Frans is een bandlid met songwritertalent die zich buiten Illfame ook met diverse andere muziekstijlen inlaat. Inmiddels heeft Michiel Spijkers de microfoon overgenomen van Bas. Illfame heeft een set aan vernieuwende songs waarin de melodie van In Flames, de emotie van Dark tranquillity en de agressie van Arch Enemy gecombineerd worden. De nieuwe E.P. ‘Break The Silence’ is momenteel in de maak en zal begin 2009 verschijnen! Reason to Kill found life early 2005. With nothing but experienced members in the squad, this band is ready to bring the music to you. Brutal songs and an astonishing live performance, influenced by bands such as Machine Head, Killswitch Engage, E-town Concrete and Soilwork. After the release of their demo EP 'Newborn Tragedy' in March 2006, the band quickly established a solid live performance. This resulted in several live shows through The Netherlands and Belgium. In December 2006 RTK recorded their new offspring; 8 tracks of hardhitting metalcore entitled 'Renewing the Chapter'. With this album released in March 2007, and a lot of positive feedback, followed by a Brazilian tour in April '07, RTK proved to be up to the challenge of becoming something big.Late 2007 saw 2 line-up changes; Koen (drums) and Geert (Bass) joined the band. With their new EP release 'Holographic Memories' in October 2008, Reason to Kill is back on full strengths. In November 2008 the band will support French Metalheads Dagoba on their Dutch tour gigs. In April 2009 RTK will visit Brasil for their second tour!! Hailing from the depths of the Tilburg (NL) underground (home of Roadburn and ZXZW), Izah takes elements of metal, hardcore, noise and post-rock and blends these into a dark and melancholic mix of heavy riffing, dynamic sound layering and chaotic drumbattering. With a sound somewhere in between that of bands like Cult of Luna, Converge, Kruger, Mono and Shora, Izah is ready to storm the planet’s barriers. After a long search for suitable bandmembers, founders Van Oosterhout (guitar) and Entius (vocals) found kindred spirits in Van Wegberg (drums), Bastiaansen (guitar) and Van der Weerd (bass) in 2006. Armed with black hearts, broken livers and a bad case of musicofilia, the band started working on their sound, which was to encompass a broad range of musical styles and atmospheres, capturing what making music is truly about to the band: spilling their guts through creative ideas. A set was written and in late 2008 the band released their self-produced two song demo, Finite Horizon/Crevice, which they made available for free on their website. Shortly after this, bassist Van der Weerd left the band and was replaced by Terhorst. The band was completed with the addition of De Jong (synth/guitar) in January 2009.
